THE NOUN: GENDER
MASCULINE GENDER
A noun that denotes a male creature is said to be Masculine gender.
FEMININE GENDER
A noun that denotes a female creature is said to be Feminine gender.
COMMON GENDER
A noun that denotes either a male or a female is said to be of the Common gender.
viz parent, child, friend, pupil, servant, thife,etc.
NEUTER GENDER
A noun that denotes a thing that is neither male nor female (i.e., thing without life) is said to be of Neuter gender.
viz book, pen,room,tree, etc.
WAYS OF FORMING THE FEMININE OF NOUNS
There are three waves of forming the feminine of Nouns
(1) By using an entirely different words; as
MASCULINE FEMININE
Bachelor spinster
Boy girl
Brother sister
Buck doe
Bull(or Ox) cow
Hart roe
Horse mare
Monkey(or friar) nun
Colt filly
Ram ewe
(2) By adding a syllable (-ess, -ine, -trix, -a, etc.) as,
MASCULINE FEMININE
Author Authoress
Peer peeress
Priest priestess
