GRAMMAR THE SENTENCE

                          Grammar 

     The right use of language  is called grammar. 

                             Or 

Grammar is that science which learns how to read , write and speak correctly.

                            Letter

   The smallest unit of language is called letter. 

Viz= A to Z

                             Word

       A group of letters that makes a complete sense it is called word. 

Viz= B + O + Y =Boy

         G + I + R + L = Girl

           

                                 Sentence  

A group of words that  makes a complete sense it is called sentence .

viz =  Ram and Shyam are not reading a book.

                         Kinds of Sentence 

 There are three kinds of sentence 

  1. Simple

  2.  Compound 

  3.   Complex

                              Simple Sentence 

   Simple Sentence contains a subject and a finite verb.

viz = Ram reads a book.

         Sneha cooks   the food.

                         

                                 Kinds of Simple Sentence 

There are five kinds of simple sentence      

  

   1. Assertive 

   2. Interrogative

   3.Imperative

  4. Exclamatory

   5.Optative

                         Assertive Sentence 

Those sentence which denote positive or negative statements are called assertive sentence . 

viz = Ram goes to school ( positive)

         Ram does not go to school ( negative )

                          Kinds of Assertive Sentence 

    There are two kinds of Assertive sentence 

1. Positive Sentence 

2. Negative Sentence 

                          Positive Sentence 

Those sentences which denote positive statement are called positive sentence.

viz = Ram goes to market

[ Word Order - Subject  + helping verb + main verb + object + other word].

                          Negative Sentence 

 Those sentences which denote negative statement are called Negative sentence .

viz = Ram does not play hockey .

 [Word Order - Subject  + helping verb + main verb + not + object + other word]

                        Interrogative Sentence 

Those sentences which ask question are called interrogative sentence.

viz= Do you read English grammar?

        Who are you?

                      Kind of Interrogative Sentence 

    There are to kind of Interrogative Sentence 

 1. Yes/No Types

2. Wh/Types

                     Yes/No Types

That sentence which begins with helping verb is called yes/no type.

viz= Do you Play hockey?

[Helping verb - is , am , are, was ,were ,do , does ,did , has , have, had etc.]

                    Wh/Types

That sentence which begin with question word is called Wh type.

viz - Who are you?

        Where are you going?
